Best magnetic screen doors for pets and dogs
Pet friendly means an animal can push the seam. It does not mean claw-proof. For a listing that says fiberglass and pet-resistant, we pick the AUGO fiberglass screen.
Updated 2026-10-31. Editorial opinion from listing specs, not a lab test.
The phrase "pet friendly" on a magnetic screen means the animal does not need a hand to open it. The seam gives. That is a real convenience for a dog who already knows doors, and it is a real mess for a dog who scratches whatever is between him and the yard. Shop for the second problem on purpose.
What the listings are actually promising
AUGO fiberglass screen (Amazon, opens in a new tab) says the fiberglass mesh is meant to withstand daily wear from kids and pets, and that it is light enough to walk through hands-free. Flux Phenom fiberglass screen (Amazon, opens in a new tab) says a tight weave is scratch-resistant and claims about 1 mm openings. Homitt fiberglass screen (Amazon, opens in a new tab) describes fiberglass and a weighted hem. None of those sentences is a test we ran. They are the claims you can hold the maker to if the mesh shreds in a week.
Teach the middle
Hold the seam open and call the dog through a few times. Reward the push in the center. If you let the first week be a corner scratch, the tape is what fails, and then the mesh gets blamed. A full frame of hook-and-loop, which AUGO specifies, gives the corner less loose cloth to grab. Pins on wood are the backup after the dog has the idea.
Cats usually figure the seam out and then sit in it, which holds it open. That is a behavior, not a product defect. The keep-open snaps are for you, when you want it open. They are not a cat policy.
Large dogs and real pet doors
A magnetic screen is a poor primary door for a powerful dog. The magnets are designed to yield. A dog who hits them at a run will open them, which is fine, and may also shoulder the tape off the trim, which is not. If the dog already destroyed a factory screen, a fiberglass curtain is a milder version of the same idea. A framed pet door, or a real screen door with a closer, is the honest tool. We are not going to pretend AUGO replaces that.
Magnets on the floor
Every major listing we checked carries a choking warning about small magnets. Dogs investigate objects with their mouths. If the seam is shedding, retire the screen. Do not stitch a loose magnet back in with a hope and a bread twist. Order another screen, and look at why the first seam failed. Usually it was a twist from a bad hang, or teeth.

Can a dog go through a magnetic screen?
A dog that is willing to push the center can. Listings, including AUGO's, describe that as the point. Some dogs paw the corner instead, which pulls the tape down. Teach the middle, and use fiberglass mesh if claws are part of the routine.
Which mesh holds up to claws?
Makers say fiberglass resists tears better than polyester. AUGO, Flux Phenom, and Homitt all sell a fiberglass listing. SnapScreen has not dragged a claw across any of them. We pick AUGO's fiberglass page because the fit and the full-length seam are also spelled out.
Are the magnets safe around pets?
Loose magnets are a medical emergency if swallowed, for animals and for children. If you find a magnet in the doorway, take the screen down. Do not leave a frayed seam in service.
