Best no-drill magnetic screen doors for renters
Skip the push pins. AUGO's hook-and-loop hang is the no-drill option we feature, with a plain warning: adhesive can lift paint when you move out.
Updated 2026-10-31. Editorial opinion from listing specs, not a lab test.
Renters want bugs managed and the deposit untouched. A magnetic screen can do the first job without a drill. It cannot promise the second. The adhesive is doing real work, and real adhesive sometimes takes finish with it. Go in with that trade, not with a slogan.
The renter pick is still AUGO
We feature AUGO fiberglass screen (Amazon, opens in a new tab) for a 36 × 82 opening and AUGO polyester 38 × 81 screen (Amazon, opens in a new tab) for 36 × 80, hung with the hook-and-loop only. Both listings include push pins. Including them is useful for a homeowner and optional for you. The no-drill install is the tape path the same pages describe: clean, dry frame, full-frame strips, pressure.
Flux Phenom fiberglass screen (Amazon, opens in a new tab) is the alternative if you want a listing that says "no drilling" in the bullet and publishes 52 magnets. It also includes tacks. Same rule: leave the tacks in the bag unless the lease and the wood trim allow them. We still lead with AUGO because the full-length seam and the size choices are the clearer story.
Read the lease, then test a corner
Some leases ban adhesives on trim as well as nails. If yours does, a screen is a conversation, not a weekend project. If adhesives are allowed, stick a two-inch piece of the tape somewhere low and hidden. Wait a day. Peel it slowly, back on itself. If paint comes up, stop. The doorway will do the same thing in August.
- Do not mount on fresh paint, even if the unit was just turned.
- Do not mount on wallpaper, brick, or knock-down texture.
- Do not add screws "just at the top" because the tape feels light. That is a drill install with extra steps.
- Photograph the bare frame before you stick anything, so move-out is a comparison and not a memory.
How to take it down
Peel on a cool day, parallel to the trim, slowly. Heat makes adhesive smear. A hair dryer on low can soften a stubborn spot. We are not going to recommend a solvent; the wrong one eats rental paint faster than the tape does. If a haze remains, a little mild soap on a cloth is the first try. Keep the screen. The next apartment may have a door of the same size, which is the actual renter advantage of this product.
If the screen falls during the lease, the answer is a cleaner surface or a better size, not a secret fastener. Falling down covers the reset. If the opening simply is not a listed AUGO size, do not force it. A too-wide screen is the one that peels, and peeled paint is the photo you did not want.

Is a magnetic screen really no-drill?
The adhesive hook-and-loop is no-drill. The push pins included with AUGO are small holes. Renters who cannot make holes should use the tape only and leave the pins in the bag.
Will it damage the paint?
It can. Any adhesive strong enough to hold a screen can pull paint, especially cheap rental paint. Test a short piece in a hidden spot, peel slowly, and do not stick tape to fresh paint.
What if the frame is metal?
Smooth, clean metal can take adhesive and cannot take pins. Flux Phenom says its tack-and-fold sizing trick does not work on metal frames. If the tape will not hold, do not escalate to screws.
